In the second inning, TCU struck first with solo home runs by Preston Gamster and Kyuss Gargett. Redshirt junior Maxx Yehl held the Horned Frogs in check for most of the game, allowing just one more baserunner in his 6.2 innings while fanning nine batters.
Despite a solid effort from junior Dawson Montesa, who struck out four in the eighth, two runs slipped by due to wild pitches, extending TCU’s lead.
Davis closed the game impressively, retiring the last 10 Mountaineers he faced. He threw just 108 pitches for the shutout.
As the regular season wraps up, West Virginia aims to bounce back in the final game of the series on Saturday. The first pitch is set for noon, preceded by Senior Day activities at 11:25 a.m.
