The West Virginia University women’s tennis team showed their strength in a recent match, dominating Duquesne with a convincing 7-0 victory at the Summit Tennis Academy.
They started strong by winning the doubles point and then carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches.
Doubles Results:
- Zuzana Kudlackova and Julie Bousseau defeated Mila Badics and Sofia Serrano, 6-3.
- Taisia Yakunina and Alexandra O’Brien triumphed over Lucia Tognoni and Laura Villanueva Morillo, 6-3.
- Audrey Moutama and Lyla Byers edged out Jasa Roka and Denisse Guilarte, 7-5.
Singles Results:
- Audrey Moutama beat Mila Badics, 6-3, 6-4.
- Julie Bousseau won against Alexandra O’Brien, 6-0, 6-2.
- Zuzana Kudlackova battled through three sets to take down Denisse Guilarte, 7-5, 3-6, 12-10.
- Lyla Byers defeated Jasa Roka, 6-3, 6-1.
- Lucia Tognoni bested Sofia Serrano, 6-1, 6-3.
- Sosanna Malaak secured a point by default over Taisia Yakunina.
Kudlackova’s performance, especially her thrilling tiebreak win, was a highlight of the day.
Looking ahead, the Mountaineers will compete against Marshall on Friday, Feb. 20.
The match illustrates the Mountaineers’ potential in the 2023 season. According to recent NCAA statistics, teams that perform well in early-season matches often carry that success throughout the season. West Virginia’s strong start could signal a promising year ahead.
