Baystate Health in Springfield recently welcomed new leadership to its Board of Trustees. Dr. Akinyele Lovelace is now the chair, and Attorney Tony Dos Santos serves as vice chair.
Peter D. Banko, the president and CEO of Baystate Health, emphasized the importance of strong leadership. He noted that Dr. Lovelace and Attorney Dos Santos have the experience and values needed to guide the organization in providing high-quality, accessible care. Their leadership aligns with the “Baystate Health 2030” strategic plan, aiming to enhance care while ensuring financial stability.
Dr. Lovelace is a board-certified internist at Family Medicine Associates in Westfield. He has been actively involved in the local healthcare community, serving on the Baystate Health Board of Trustees for six years, including a term as vice chair. He and his wife, Christina, recently served as honorary chairs for the Baystate Noble Ball.
Dr. Lovelace has a rich educational background, including a bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After practicing in Texas and earning an MBA, he returned to the East Coast in 2015 to focus on improving primary care and patient outcomes in Western Massachusetts. He is also actively involved in his local community, raising two teenage daughters.
