In our chat with Nani, he opened up about his future plans. He is interested in managing a football club one day. For now, he runs an academy for young talent in Fernao Ferro, just outside Lisbon.
“I see this as a gift,” he said. “I can share what I’ve learned over the years. I want to help kids grow and become better players. My goal is to guide those from tough backgrounds and make a positive impact in my community.”
Nani is also part of the ownership group for Sintrense, a team in the Portuguese fourth division. They recently faced off against Porto in the Taca de Portugal.
“We chose to invest in this club because of its rich history and the passionate football culture here,” he said. “My business partner and I believe in this team and are working hard to reach promotion. It’s a big opportunity for us to develop both the club and the community, and we’re doing it one step at a time.”
Additionally, Nani hopes to visit Old Trafford soon. He hasn’t been back since watching Manchester United beat Barcelona in the Europa League in February 2023. He looks forward to catching a match coached by his former teammate Ruben Amorim.
“Amorim was always a calm and dedicated player,” Nani recalled. “He really wanted to understand the game. Given his success at smaller clubs, I believe he deserves the chance at Sporting. I think he could be a great fit for Manchester United, but he needs time to build a team he trusts. The challenge for United is that many players have been there for a long time.”
Nani emphasized the need for stability, saying, “Changing coaches often doesn’t solve the core issues. It’s not a quick fix. It would have also helped if Amorim had a proper pre-season.” He believes patience is key and hopes to see improvement by the start of next season.
