Zelenskyy hesitated to approve a proposal pushed by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, claiming it lacked any security guarantees. Trump, in a radio interview, criticized Zelenskyy’s management of the ongoing war, accusing Ukraine of wasting U.S. time.

Despite the tension, talks advanced during the three-day visit of retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia. Meetings were held with Zelenskyy and other top Ukrainian officials, showing a commitment on both sides to reach an agreement.

After the meetings, Zelenskyy shared an upbeat message, emphasizing that both teams were crafting a draft agreement. He stated, “This agreement can add value to our relations — what matters most is getting the details right.” Trump’s earlier comments about Bessent’s visit being useless contrasted sharply with Zelenskyy’s optimism.

Trump showed interest in a deal earlier this month, linking it to his broader strategy for Ukraine.
