Why a New Deus Ex Game Won’t Arrive in 2026: Insight from the Series’ Voice Lead on ‘Psychopaths’ in Charge

Elias Toufexis, the voice of Adam Jensen from the Deus Ex series, recently shared disappointing news with fans: no new game will launch in 2026. He humorously noted that the people in charge are “psychopaths.” You can find his post on Twitter, where he teased upcoming projects, including one related to Bungie’s Marathon. The other projects, however, remain under wraps due to non-disclosure agreements.

This revelation stirred hope among Deus Ex fans, as the series has been mostly silent since the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided in 2016. The earlier titles, including Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War, each left an impact, but the franchise has been dormant for years. The end of Mankind Divided left many fans wanting more, especially after it concluded with a cliffhanger.

So, who’s behind this ongoing silence? Eidos Montreal developed Mankind Divided and Square Enix published it. However, in 2022, Square Enix sold the Deus Ex franchise to Embracer Group, along with Tomb Raider and Thief. In 2024, Embracer canceled an upcoming Deus Ex game and made significant layoffs, raising concerns about the franchise’s future. Despite this setback, Embracer still holds the rights.

Interestingly, Crystal Dynamics, another studio under Embracer, just announced a new Tomb Raider game. If Lara Croft can return to action, there’s a glimmer of hope for Adam Jensen as well. Fans continue to express their excitement and frustration on social media, creating discussions about the potential revival of the beloved series.

As gaming historian Dr. Tanya Krzywinska points out, franchises often have ups and downs. “It’s not uncommon for established titles to take breaks,” she says. “But dedicated fan bases can sometimes prompt developers to reconsider.” That could be the case for Deus Ex, where passionate players are eager for its return.

In short, while the future remains uncertain for the Deus Ex series, the community still holds onto hope. As developments unfold, it’ll be interesting to see whether Adam Jensen’s story will continue or if the franchise will remain on the sidelines for a bit longer.
