Hadel got straight to the point, saying, “This is not a bit, this is not a joke. ‘Smiling Friends’ will be ending after Season 3.”
After spending years on the show, both creators felt burnt out but also proud. Cusack noted, “After finishing Season 3, we felt accomplished but thought, ‘I think that could just be it.’”
They both wanted “Smiling Friends” to maintain a high standard. Hadel emphasized it’s better to leave fans wanting more than to be known for dragging a show out. “We wouldn’t want to do more seasons half-heartedly,” he said. “That’s not fair to us, and it’s not fair to the audience.”
