Lifestyle management companies like Pinch, Elitebutlers, and Club Concierge have surfaced to meet this growing demand. Their services, which can cost between Rs 15,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh monthly, promise peace of mind.

Traditionally, domestic work in India relied on informal systems, but there’s a shift towards a more refined, professional approach. Most lifestyle managers are young, educated, and have backgrounds in hospitality or the airline industry. They often earn salaries starting at Rs 4-6 lakh annually, with potential to earn much more in high-net-worth households.

These managers are crucial to modern families. As a lifestyle manager at Pinch, Uttaran Sen, 24, often becomes attuned to the subtle changes within households. A shift in grocery purchases might signal a personal crisis, and he adapts his services accordingly. Balancing multiple families’ needs simultaneously, he acts as a human organizer, navigating challenges that arise daily.

Clients find themselves overwhelmed with their busy lives. One corporate professional expressed the appeal of outsourcing household tasks. “After a long workday, I don’t want to argue with vendors. I’d rather it be taken care of,” he noted.

This evolving job isn’t just about logistics. Lifestyle managers operate in emotional spaces too, providing support during personal crises. Sen once helped a client when her daughter went missing briefly, ensuring timely communication and emotional reassurance.

While engaging lifestyle managers often signals affluence, it also raises questions about the broader economic landscape. According to Avinash Kumar from JNU’s Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies, behind this trend lies an economic divide. The increasing entry of men into domestic work highlights the precarious nature of jobs available in other sectors, while lifestyle management offers a blend of professional stature with entrepreneurial independence.

As lifestyles become more complicated, the demand for these services continues to rise. Pinch’s annual revenue jumped from Rs 78 lakh to Rs 4.8 crore in just one year. This boom reflects a growing market that recognizes the value of time and management in complex urban lives.

Nitin Srivastava, CEO of Pinch, mentions that this concept isn’t entirely new; India has a history of such roles within royal households. Today, however, there’s a bridge between tradition and modernity, as this service becomes more structured and recognized.

In essence, lifestyle managers serve as both caretakers and orchestrators of daily life. They streamline the chaos of modern existence, which for many families means balancing diverse needs and routines seamlessly.
