Why Bikers Are Facing a £10,000 Fine for Selling Dangerous Helmets: What You Need to Know

Bikers Lifestyle Ltd has been fined £10,000 for selling dangerous motorcycle helmets that do not meet UK safety standards. The ruling came after the company was found guilty of several offenses in Willesden Magistrates Court on January 20, 2025.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) prosecuted Bikers Lifestyle Ltd for selling helmets that lacked proper eye protection. Tests showed that three out of four helmets from this company were dangerously below safety requirements. In one testing case, a helmet indicated a 100% chance of fatality in an accident.

The DVSA’s Market Surveillance Unit conducted these tests at a specialized independent lab. The results revealed a serious risk to consumers. As a consequence, the court ordered the company to remove all non-compliant helmets from sale and recall the unsafe items already sold.

The fines included £4,000 for offenses related to helmets, £1,500 for eye protection issues, a £2,000 victim surcharge, and £2,694 in prosecution costs. In total, the fines and costs amounted to £10,194.

Sadie Clarke, who led the DVSA investigation, emphasized the danger of using sub-standard helmets. She said, “These helmets fail to provide the necessary protection in an accident, and the consequences can be severe.”

This case highlights the importance of ensuring that motorcycle safety gear meets required standards, as lives depend on the protection they provide.
