Why Christopher Walken Chooses a Tech-Free Lifestyle: His Surprising Take on Modern Technology

Here’s the latest entertainment news from Newsweek.

Christopher Walken is quite different from many celebrities today when it comes to technology.

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the 81-year-old actor shared that he doesn’t own a cell phone, use social media, or even send emails. He mentioned that he watches Severance, the show he stars in, on DVD.

Walken stated, “I don’t have technology. I just have a satellite dish for TV. They send me DVDs of Severance.” He added, “No cell phone. No emails. I don’t even know what Twitter is.”

Walken also said that when he needs to make a call, he borrows a phone. He compared it to not owning a watch. “I’ve never had a watch either. If I need to know the time, I ask someone,” he noted. “If I need a phone, I just ask to borrow one.”

He recalled a time during his last play when he saw audience members distracted by their devices. “People were answering calls during the show and recording performances. I thought, that’s it for me,” he shared. “I didn’t want to return to the stage after that.”

Interestingly, Walken seems to fit right in with Severance director Ben Stiller’s “no phone” rule on set. Stiller explained that he wants to keep distractions away from the actors while they work, saying, “I can’t stand seeing someone on their phone while an actor is performing. It ruins the moment.”

So, maybe less technology isn’t such a bad thing after all!
