After the tragic stampede in Bengaluru that took 11 lives, India’s cricket coach, Gautam Gambhir, shared his thoughts on road shows. He expressed his long-standing belief against them. Even after the T20 World Cup win in 2007, he felt road shows weren’t necessary.

At a recent press conference, Gambhir highlighted the importance of responsibility. He said, “Every life matters.” His comments came right before India’s tour to England, where they will face five Test matches. Joining him was the new Test captain, Shubman Gill.

The deadly incident occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as thousands gathered to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s first Indian Premier League title. In response, RCB expressed their sorrow and announced financial support for the victims’ families.

Gambhir acknowledged the excitement of fans but stressed the need for caution. “If we weren’t prepared to hold a road show, we shouldn’t have done it,” he said. His heartfelt words serve as a reminder of the human cost behind such celebrations.

In light of the stampede, Karnataka Police have filed a case against RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and an event management company. Meanwhile, the state government plans to provide financial aid to the families of those lost, including a schoolgirl and a corporate employee.
