A young iPod user shared that phones interrupt music with notifications and ads, while an iPod plays only music. For some, this simplicity is refreshing. It’s a break from constant connectivity, and people seem to appreciate that.

Many Gen Z users weren’t even around when the first iPod launched. Yet, they’re discovering these devices through family members or are actively searching for them online. For example, a 16-year-old found her grandma’s iPod Nano and is loving it. Secondhand markets are thriving, with reports of surging sales on platforms like eBay and Facebook Marketplace.

Statistics highlight this trend. eBay has reported a 25% increase in searches for the iPod Classic from January to October 2025 compared to 2024. Similarly, searches for the iPod Nano saw a 20% rise during the same period. With about 450 million iPods sold over the years, finding one is easier than ever.

However, this resurgence comes with a downside: prices are rising. The New York Times notes that vintage iPods have jumped in price by 60% since 2023. Some models are selling for up to $600, which is interesting when you consider that a new iPhone can be bought for the same amount, complete with the Apple Music app.

So, will Apple ever bring back the iPod? While current CEO Tim Cook is preparing to hand over the reins to John Ternus in 2026, there haven’t been any indications that a new iPod is on the horizon. Interestingly, Tony Fadell, the original designer of the iPod, believes there’s still a place for it in today’s market. He suggests a modern version could succeed if designed wisely, allowing users to disconnect from the web while enjoying music.
