“Hamilton,” the popular musical about America’s founding, has decided not to perform at the Kennedy Center next year. The show pulled out because of President Trump’s influence over the venue, which has been a cultural landmark.

Originally, “Hamilton” was set to be a part of the Kennedy Center’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. However, the situation changed when Trump removed Democratic board members and took a central role in the center’s leadership. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show’s creator, expressed that the Kennedy Center no longer represents the values it once did. He stated, “We’re not going to be part of it while it is the Trump Kennedy Center.”
Jeffrey Seller, the show’s producer, added that Trump’s actions have led to the belief that the Kennedy Center is no longer for everyone but has become exclusive to Trump’s supporters. This shift made it difficult for the “Hamilton” team to participate.
A representative from the Kennedy Center did not provide immediate comments regarding the situation. Without “Hamilton,” the upcoming celebration of America’s 250th anniversary will have to find a new way to engage audiences. Although the show was previously announced for 2026, no tickets were sold, and contracts remained unsigned.
To keep fans informed, Miranda and Seller mentioned plans to announce another venue in the Washington area soon, ensuring that those eager to see the performance won’t miss out.
