Harrison Ford rarely regrets his work. This is true, especially for his iconic role in the “Indiana Jones” franchise. He has played the adventurous archaeologist for decades and recently starred in the fifth film, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” in 2023.
However, the film didn’t perform as well as expected. It earned $60 million in the U.S. and $70 million internationally, totaling $130 million during its opening weekend. Considering the movie’s hefty budget of nearly $300 million, these numbers were disappointing.
Yet, Ford remains unfazed. In a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, he simply said, “S**t happens.” He also shared that he felt there was still a story to tell about Indiana Jones. He wanted to explore a version of the character who has faced the consequences of his past adventures.
Ford stated, “I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass.” Despite the film’s performance, he expressed satisfaction, saying, “I’m still happy I made that movie.”
Ford first brought Indiana Jones to life in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Over the years, he has reprised this role in four sequels. Along with his legendary portrayal of Han Solo in the “Star Wars” series, Indiana Jones is a character forever tied to Ford’s career.
In an interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace, Ford emphasized that he wanted to give fans and the character a proper conclusion. He wanted the story to feel genuine and to address the theme of aging. At 82, he felt it was important to embrace his age in the storytelling.
After 40 years of playing Indiana Jones, Ford made a light-hearted remark about moving on, saying, “It’s time for me to grow up.” His next appearance will be in “Captain America: Brave New World,” set to release later this month.
