Fans of Jeopardy! are never shy with their opinions. Recently, some viewers raised eyebrows about the show’s challenge level. They felt the questions in the Tournament of Champions might have been simplified.
On February 13, the Tournament of Champions wrapped up, with Neilesh Vinjamuri taking the top spot. Instead of jumping straight into the Invitational Tournament, the show aired a special episode featuring an Exhibition Game. This episode was previously shown on TuneIn Radio.
In this special challenge, Ken Jennings hosted three contestants: Adriana Harmeyer, Isaac Hirsch, and Drew Basile. According to Jennings, the exhibition served as practice for the upcoming tournament finals. “It gives everyone a chance to answer 61 clues, leveling the playing field,” he explained. These contestants had reached the semifinals but missed out on the quarterfinals.
However, viewers felt the questions were too simple for such seasoned players. One clue from the “Sounds Like an Actor’s Name” category described, “Sounds like a Batman: 3-letter term meaning to prohibit + a company with a duck symbol.” The answer? Ben Affleck, who is known for his role as Batman.
Critics pointed out other easy categories like “Vice Presidents” and “Newspaper Terms.” One clue even asked contestants to name a band’s lead singer based on the hint, “Give Me Some Backups.”
The Final Jeopardy round covered “Mythology,” with a clue about Gerardus Mercator’s maps. Surprisingly, all three contestants got it right, prompting discussion online among fans. Many took to the Jeopardy! subreddit, echoing their frustration over the easier questions.
“These clues felt easier than usual,” one fan commented. Another added, “A sixth grader could have answered Final Jeopardy. What a joke.” Yet, some pointed out, “This was just a mock game. The questions were intentionally easy.”
For those eager for more, the Invitational Tournament is set to begin on February 17. Fans are hopeful for a more challenging experience this time around.
