Last week, Steelers General Manager Omar Khan mentioned that all options for the quarterback position are open. With free agency approaching, it’s becoming clearer where the team’s interests lie regarding their quarterbacks.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Justin Fields is now seen as a more likely starting quarterback for the Steelers in 2025 compared to Russell Wilson. While no deal is finalized, Fields is expected to attract attention once free agency begins. Pittsburgh has the chance to re-sign him before other teams make their moves later this month.
Both players are set to enter unrestricted free agency. Fields, who will turn 26 soon, started the initial six games for the Steelers this past season, winning four of those. Across ten games, he completed 66% of his passes, totaling 1,106 yards and throwing for five touchdowns against just one interception. Additionally, he rushed for 289 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns.
On the other hand, Wilson started 11 games, completing 64% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. However, the Steelers struggled in their last few games, losing the final five with Wilson as the starter, ending the season on a low note.
