LABOR DAY OUTLOOK: A PERFECT END TO SUMMER
This weekend looks promising for Labor Day celebrations. It’s that time when friends and families gather for good food and fun.
Mike La Vigne, the store manager at Super One Foods in Marquette Township, says, “People love hanging out in the meat department.” Grilling is a big part of the holiday. You’ll find brats, hamburgers, steaks, and deli salads flying off the shelves.
With students heading back to school, shopping lists tend to overlap. “We see a mix right now,” La Vigne notes. “Charcoal sales are up, along with a lot of barbecue supplies. Many are also stocking up on sandwich bags for back-to-school lunches.” It’s great to see people outside, soaking up the final days of summer.
While you enjoy tasty meals, don’t forget about your pets. “Stick to their usual food,” advises Dr. Nora Wineland from the Michigan Department of Agriculture. “Changing their diet suddenly can lead to upset stomachs.”
Keep in mind that Labor Day gatherings can overwhelm pets, just like they might overwhelm us. Dr. Wineland adds, “The noise and crowd can scare animals that typically handle such situations well. It’s important to create a safe space for them.”
