Why Our $21 Ferry Ride in Washington Blows a $300 Whale-Watching Tour Out of the Water!

Why Our Ferry Ride in Washington Blows a 0 Whale-Watching Tour Out of the Water!

We recently went on a whale-watching tour that cost quite a bit more than our affordable ferry ride. To put it simply, the tour didn’t live up to our expectations.

We weren’t too impressed with the whale-watching tour, especially since we had already spotted some wildlife from our cheaper ferry ride.

I had hoped to see more wildlife, so I booked a $300 whale-watching adventure away from the mainland. We drove over the bridge from Whidbey Island to the San Juan Islands, which are famous for orca sightings.

Unfortunately, during the four-hour trip, we only caught a glimpse of one orca. While it was exciting to see, the whale was far away. Plus, there were many other boats around, all trying to get a closer look. This made the moment feel a bit crowded and artificial.

After this experience, it became clear that we enjoy the natural thrill of seeing wildlife in a more spontaneous way. On our ferry ride, we actually saw more animals than we did on the tour. And even if we hadn’t, we still enjoyed the stunning views as we sailed through the waters of Washington.

Wildlife spotting can be hit or miss, so next time, I think I’ll stick to the more relaxed and budget-friendly ferry rides instead of those expensive tours where everyone scrambles for the best spots.
