Bengaluru is facing a growing issue with body acne, often known as bacne. Dermatologists are seeing more cases among young adults. Stress, heat, and lifestyle changes are major players in this trend. Not too long ago, acne was mostly a teenage concern, but now it’s affecting people in their 20s, 30s, and even 40s.
Dr. Sudheendra Udbalker, a dermatologist at Fortis Hospital, notes that acne isn’t just popping up on the face anymore. It’s appearing on the back, chest, and arms. Our busy lives are contributing to this shift. Lifestyle choices, hormonal changes, and even what we eat are factors.
Dr. Shireen Furtado adds that more oil on our skin and fungal growth, particularly in the summer, can lead to skin inflammation. Stress can boost oil production, worsening the situation. The tight clothing many wear and lack of hygiene post-workout are also culprits.
Interestingly, some beauty trends are rising to address this issue, like back facials and scrubs. But opinions are mixed. Dr. Shireen warns that the skin on our backs is much thicker, making these treatments less effective. However, Dr. Sudheendra suggests that gentle exfoliation could help mild cases. Just be careful; aggressive scrubbing might do more harm than good.
For those dealing with severe cases, doctors recommend medical treatment. Options may include salicylic acid cleansers, topical applications, and in tough cases, oral antibiotics or retinoids. Ignoring these concerns can lead to scarring and pigmentation.
In recent studies, around 40% of adults aged 18-40 report experiencing body acne, highlighting how widespread this issue has become. Seeking help early can save your skin and boost your confidence.
