Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing a prison sentence of four years and two months, and his lawyers have asked a judge to send him to a low-security facility in New Jersey. They believe that FCI Fort Dix would be the best place for him. The prison has programs aimed at helping individuals tackle drug issues and offers educational opportunities.
Combs’ lawyer, Teny Geragos, highlighted in a recent letter that FCI Fort Dix is about 70 miles from New York City, making it easier for family visits. The prison’s drug treatment program would be beneficial for Combs as he works to stay sober.
This legal request comes after Judge Arun Subramanian encouraged Combs’ lawyers to share their preferred facility. Meanwhile, former President Trump mentioned that Combs has asked him for a pardon, though he didn’t clarify if he would grant it.
Combs was convicted of two charges related to prostitution. The trial exposed troubling details about his life, including instances of violence and drug abuse. Although his criminal case concluded, he is still dealing with civil lawsuits from a former stylist, who accuses him of various forms of abuse. Combs denies these allegations, labeling them as false.
The music mogul has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since September 2024. This time will count toward his total sentence, potentially reducing his time in prison to about three years. In a letter before his sentencing, Combs expressed a desire to change, stating that he feels “stronger, wiser, and clean.”
FCI Fort Dix, known for housing just under 3,900 inmates, has seen its share of notable figures, including mobsters and politicians. In recent years, incidents at the prison, such as stabbings and smuggling operations involving drones, have raised concerns about safety.
The decision on Combs’ placement will ultimately rest with the Bureau of Prisons, which considers multiple factors, including the nature of the crime and the individual’s needs. Whatever the final decision may be, it’s clear that Combs has a long road ahead as he navigates his sentence and the challenges that come with it.
