Why the Costco Food Court’s Most Overrated Item Doesn’t Live Up to the Hype

When you think of Costco, you probably picture fantastic deals and that delicious food court. I used to live just a short walk from a Costco in Queens, New York, and I enjoyed strolling in to grab a quick snack, even on days I wasn’t shopping. Among all the treats, however, there’s one that stands out as overrated: the Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie.

These cookies remind me of the oversized chocolate chip ones from school lunches. Unfortunately, Costco’s version misses the mark. They’re often thick and sometimes overbaked. Priced at $2.49, it feels like a disappointment when you can get a soft-serve sundae for the same cost. While it’s not the worst cookie out there, it’s certainly not worth the hype.

Speaking of misses, let’s talk about the Caesar salad. It features chunks of Costco’s famous rotisserie chicken, but it doesn’t hold a candle to their other options. The salad I tried was plain and, shockingly, lacked croutons! Luckily, Costco seems to be phasing it out in favor of a better Rotisserie Chicken Chef Salad in some areas.

Now, if you’re looking for a standout item, I recommend the Chicken Bake. Priced at just $3.99, it’s hearty enough to be a full meal. The crunchy, cheesy exterior gives way to a creamy filling packed with chicken. It’s so good that I’ve grabbed one during a lunch break or shared one after a long shopping trip. And if you’re curious about making it at home, there are easy copycat recipes available online.

There’s something special about the food court experience, and despite a few missteps, Costco still has options that satisfy. User reactions on social media show most people love the Chicken Bake, while the cookie often gets mixed reviews. So next time you’re at Costco, skip the cookies and go for the satisfying Chicken Bake instead.
