The game “The Expanse: Osiris Reborn” is making a big change. Owlcat Games has decided to recast the voices of its main character and his twin brother after listening to fan feedback. According to the developer, the previous voice performances didn’t quite hit the mark.
In a blog post, they said, “While the voice actor for the male protagonist and J did a lot of good work, they felt less expressive than we wanted. Because of this, we are changing the voices.” This shows how important player feedback is in game development.
Right now, Owlcat is searching for new voice actors, though it’s unclear how this will affect the game’s production. The game recently had a beta test that received mixed reviews, but it gave the developers valuable insights for improvement. Fortunately, since the full game won’t be released until 2027, there’s time to make changes.
The team is also looking at issues with gameplay, tone, and overall quality. Fans are hopeful that “The Expanse: Osiris Reborn” will be a standout sci-fi RPG, especially with “Exodus” expected next year.
It’s not common for a game to swap out voice actors after a beta, but it has happened before. For instance, in the game “Destiny,” Peter Dinklage voiced the character Ghost. After complaints about his performance, he was replaced by Nolan North.
There have been similar situations before a game’s launch, too. In “Halo 4,” the original actors were brought back after poor internal feedback following a casting change. A similar thing happened with “Hitman: Absolution” when the original voice of Agent 47 was reinstated after fan backlash.
These changes show how responsive game developers can be to their audience. Engaging with fans is vital and can lead to better experiences for everyone involved in the gaming community.
