Bobby Cannavale, the two-time Emmy-winning actor, won’t be attending the Golden Globes with his long-time partner, actress Rose Byrne. Instead, he’ll be at a reptile expo in New Jersey. Yes, you read that right!
Cannavale and Byrne, who have been together since 2012 and share two sons, Rocco and Rafael, have yet to tie the knot. Byrne is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” Before heading to the West Coast for the event, Byrne shared the unusual reason for Cannavale’s absence during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
She said, “Bobby can’t come, which is such a bummer. He’s going to a reptile expo in New Jersey.” This expo is likely Reptilecon, taking place this weekend at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison.
Byrne mentioned they plan to adopt a bearded dragon, a lizard from Australia. She explained, “This expo is the place to go, and it was on the same day. It would just be such a parent fail if we missed it. I’m on board for the dragon; it’s going to be great.”
Interestingly, there’s a growing trend in pet ownership, particularly with reptiles. A recent survey found that 38% of pet owners are considering adopting reptiles, drawn by their unique care needs and fascinating behaviors. With many families like Cannavale and Byrne’s looking for non-traditional pets, it’s clear that interests are evolving in the pet world.
The Golden Globes will air live on CBS and Paramount+ on a Sunday evening. In her nominated role, Byrne portrays Linda, a psychotherapist facing numerous challenges both professionally and personally.
