When you’re craving a warm bowl of vegetable soup, making it from scratch can feel daunting. Luckily, canned soup is a convenient option—but not all brands are worth your time.
We recently tried 11 different vegetable soup brands and discovered that Wegmans’ vegetable soup ranked at the bottom. Although Wegmans is a popular grocery chain, their soup didn’t hold up well in our taste test. It has good ingredients like carrots, celery, and pasta, but the flavor was lacking. Our tester noted that the tomato base was overpowering, leaving the soup feeling "meh."
Nutritionally, it’s also not the best choice. Each cup has about 660 milligrams of sodium, which is quite high considering the American Heart Association suggests a daily limit of 2,300 milligrams for adults. Plus, it’s made with chicken broth, making it unsuitable for vegetarians.
If you happen to have a can of Wegmans soup, don’t worry! You can easily make it taste better. Adding fresh or dried herbs can enhance the flavor significantly. Spice it up with garlic powder, cumin, or paprika—just skip the salt.
Acidity can also work wonders. A splash of fresh lemon juice or apple cider vinegar can brighten the soup. Hot sauce is another great option; it brings acidity and a kick of heat.
