Vivek Ramaswamy is stepping down from his role as co-leader of the government efficiency initiative known as DOGE. Instead, he is gearing up to run for governor of Ohio in the upcoming 2026 elections. This change leaves Elon Musk as the sole leader of DOGE.
Ramaswamy expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to support the creation of DOGE. He shared his confidence in Musk and the team’s capabilities to improve government processes. On social media, he hinted at further announcements regarding his plans in Ohio.
According to a spokesperson for former President Trump, Ramaswamy’s decision to pursue elected office means he must step away from DOGE. They thanked him for his contributions over the past couple of months and voiced optimism about his future endeavors.
There had been discussions about Ramaswamy possibly filling a Senate seat in Ohio. However, with the recent appointment of Lt. Governor Jon Husted, those scenarios shifted. Ramaswamy took to social media to indicate that he would soon reveal more about his plans.
Previously, Ramaswamy was expected to co-lead DOGE alongside Musk. Now, Musk will lead the initiative, which Trump officially announced through an executive order.
Ramaswamy has also been openly considering a bid for governor recently. He has received support from political figures like Senator Marsha Blackburn, who has voiced her backing if he decides to run.
