In the past year, India’s relationship with the United States faced significant challenges. Just as both nations were enhancing their defense and technology partnerships, U.S. prosecutors accused Indian government agents of attempting to assassinate an American citizen on U.S. soil.
Later, the U.S. Justice Department leveled fraud and bribery charges against a top Indian businessman, who has greatly benefited from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Despite these serious issues, the U.S.-India relationship has remained strong.
Eric Garcetti, the outgoing U.S. ambassador to India, emphasized that the resilience of their ties is remarkable. He noted that after years of distrust, nothing appears capable of undermining this partnership.
“I don’t think anything significant can threaten the U.S.-India relationship,” Garcetti stated in a recent interview. He described the connection as both “incredibly resilient” and “almost inevitable.” While progress may not be steady, he believes the overall trajectory is positive.
