K-State’s baseball team had quite the game against Michigan, winning 10-6 in the final of the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series. This victory marked their best start since 2010, now sitting at 6-1.
The game had its ups and downs. Michigan initially took the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs due to an error. But K-State bounced back quickly, sending eight batters to the plate and scoring five runs in the same inning. Micah Kendrick stood out with a two-RBI double that really shifted the momentum.
Coach Pete Hughes felt the win was good, but there’s still more to improve. “We need to tighten up our game,” he said. “Sloppy play can’t happen if we want to compete at the highest level.”
In terms of the pitching, Lincoln Sheffield shined again. He threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing six runs, but didn’t walk anyone—a significant feat. Cohen Feser, a TCU transfer, came in for relief and helped seal the deal, pitching 2 1/3 shutout innings for his first save of the year.
Statistics show the Wildcats excelled overall: they scored ten runs from nine hits while only stranding two runners. Six different players recorded hits, and Dee Kennedy was a star with three hits and a home run.
K-State’s offense has been strong early in the season. They’ve scored 10 or more runs in four of their games and have consistently outscored their opponents 73 to 36. Is this their year? Time will tell.
