Will Tkachuk Play in the Winter Classic? Panthers Uncertain Ahead of NHL Showdown

Matthew Tkachuk is crucial to his team, the two-time reigning Stanley Cup champions. They are about to play Florida’s first outdoor NHL game, adding to an exciting season. Last year, he scored 57 points, with 22 goals and 35 assists in 52 regular-season games, plus another 23 points in playoffs.

Fans can catch Matthew on the second episode of “Road to the Discover NHL Winter Classic,” airing in the U.S. on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET on TNT. In Canada, viewers can tune in Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on Sportsnet. In the episode, he produces a podcast with his brother, Brady Tkachuk, the captain of the Ottawa Senators.

Reflecting on past Winter Classics, Matthew shared how impactful they were for him growing up. He recalled attending the 2010 event, where the Boston Bruins faced the Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park. Matthew was just 13 and Brady was 12. “It was freezing cold,” he said, remembering the hand warmers they used under their gloves. The memory of that game ignited his passion for becoming an NHL player.

Despite the different weather for this upcoming game, he believes the experience will still be special. “This will be great for hockey in Florida,” he remarked. “It’s about the atmosphere and sharing it with family and friends.”

Outdoor hockey brings back a sense of nostalgia for many. According to a recent survey by the NHL, 70% of fans say they cherish the tradition of outdoor games, citing their unique charm and the community feel they create. As Tkachuk gears up for this historic event in Florida, it’s clear that moments like these resonate deeply with players and fans alike.

This season’s Winter Classic isn’t just a game; it’s a celebration of hockey’s roots and its future. As we watch, we celebrate the past while looking forward to the new memories being made.
