Jonesboro, AR — On May 21, 2025, the Windgate Foundation announced new grants totaling $9.49 million for scholarships, arts education initiatives, and community outreach at Arkansas State University (A-State).
This generous funding builds on Windgate’s long history of supporting A-State, with past contributions reaching record levels over nine years. The foundation’s latest commitment includes:
- $5.2 million for expanding need-based scholarships.
- $3.1 million for the Bradbury Art Museum, which will cover directorship costs, operating expenses, and facility upgrades.
- $1.19 million for programs and materials at the Windgate Center for Three-Dimensional Arts, launched in September 2021.
A-State Chancellor Todd Shields expressed gratitude for the continued backing from Windgate. “Their belief in education and the arts fosters meaningful change for our students and community,” he said.
According to Pat Forgy, the executive director of the Windgate Foundation, the goal is to create endowment funds that ensure ongoing support for A-State, allowing for lasting impact. This aligns with the foundation’s mission to elevate educational and cultural access.
Windgate’s support has been significant. In December 2021, the foundation gifted A-State $25 million for a new facility now known as the Windgate Hall of Art and Innovation. Groundbreaking took place last September, and the construction is moving forward.
Dr. Brendan Kelly, ASU System President, remarked, “Scholarships transform lives, and the arts give us purpose. Windgate’s vision ties these ideals together, defining higher education.”
The Windgate Foundation’s previous contributions include a notable $6.7 million for the Windgate Center for Three-Dimensional Arts, dedicated in 2021, and support for outreach programs at the Bradbury Art Museum, enhancing art accessibility for many.
Founded in 1993 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the Windgate Foundation focuses on advancing contemporary craft and strengthening visual arts education nationwide. They also prioritize support for children and youth in Arkansas. To learn more, visit the Windgate Foundation website.
This commitment reflects the growing trend in philanthropy where foundations are increasingly investing in education and the arts. According to a 2023 report by the National Philanthropic Trust, arts-related charitable giving has seen a rise of 15% over the past five years, highlighting a broader shift toward enriching community culture.
As educational institutions navigate changing landscapes, such contributions play a critical role in shaping future opportunities for students, especially in the arts. The Windgate Foundation’s ongoing partnership with A-State is a shining example of how collaboration can lead to impactful community development.
