(SMYRNA, Del.) – Governor Matthew Meyer declared a State of Emergency today in anticipation of Winter Storm Fern. This declaration allows for the mobilization of resources, including the Delaware National Guard, to support storm preparations. The emergency will start at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
“Delawareans should feel secure during severe winter weather,” Gov. Meyer said. “Prepare while you can, stay off the roads once the storm begins, and follow updates from local officials.”
The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) has been on Enhanced Watch since Friday and will fully activate Sunday morning. This includes collaboration with various partners, including the Delaware Department of Transportation and local emergency services, to coordinate response efforts.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Monday. Snowfall of 8-12 inches is expected, especially in Kent and New Castle County, with potential power outages and travel disruptions due to icy conditions.
