Windsor-Essex is getting ready for winter weather. Environment Canada has shared a travel advisory warning about incoming snow.
This Saturday afternoon, snow will start to blanket extreme southwestern Ontario, with up to 5 cm expected by late evening.
According to meteorologist Haizhen Sun, the snow will begin in the afternoon. After the snowfall, there’s also a chance of freezing rain or drizzle.
“We expect total accumulations of about 2-5 cm, with potential ice buildup making roads slippery,” said Sun.
The freezing drizzle is likely to start around midnight and continue into the night.
Sun points out that low temperatures, around -4 to -5 degrees Celsius, will contribute to the freezing drizzle conditions.
Motorists should be on high alert for dangerous driving circumstances. “It’s crucial to drive slowly and stay prepared for changes in the road conditions. If you can avoid travel, it’s best to do so,” she advised.
The freezing drizzle should taper off by early Sunday morning.
Be cautious; highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may all become icy and hard to navigate.
