The Minnesota Timberwolves are busy enhancing their roster. They recently turned two-way guard Jaylen Clark into a standard contract and are set to sign free agent Bones Hyland.
Clark has inked a fully guaranteed, two-year deal. Standing 6 feet 4 inches tall, he has impressed everyone with his high energy on the court. His agent, Todd Ramasar, confirmed this exciting news to ESPN.
After signing Clark, the Timberwolves plan to bring in Hyland, a first-round pick from 2021. This move is special as it connects him with Timberwolves president Tim Connelly, who originally picked him in Denver.
Since joining the Timberwolves on January 29, Clark has made an impact. In February alone, he averages 6.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game while shooting 47.4% from the floor and an impressive 44% from beyond the arc. He has scored in double digits three times, with standout games of 17, 14, and 11 points.
Not only has Clark contributed offensively, but he has also been solid on defense. He has held opponents to 41% shooting when he’s the defending player, including a notable matchup against star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Originally the Timberwolves’ second-round pick in 2023, Clark missed last season due to a torn Achilles tendon but has made a remarkable comeback this year.
Bones Hyland, now 24, has played in the NBA for four seasons. He averaged 7.2 points while shooting a career-high 39% from three-point range for the LA Clippers this season. Recently, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks but was waived shortly after.
Hyland has also shown his defensive skills, ranking in the top five for steals per 36 minutes among players who have played over 200 minutes this season. He has shown promise by averaging 17.7 points in the games where he played at least 20 minutes this year.
Both players bring added depth and excitement to the Timberwolves as they gear up for the rest of the season.
