World Rugby is excited to share its first progress report on the Impact Beyond 2025 Plan, which kicked off in October 2024. This plan focuses on initiatives for women and girls in rugby as we gear up for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.
With less than 200 days remaining until the World Cup, anticipation is building for what promises to be the biggest celebration of women’s rugby. This event in England is set to make history, not only for rugby but for women’s sports and society as a whole.
Central to this change is the Impact Beyond 2025 Plan, developed in partnership with the RFU’s Impact ’25 initiative and various local projects. Together, they aim to enhance the sport from grassroots levels to elite competition, creating a lasting legacy worldwide.
The first progress report highlights several key achievements:
- 42 Rugby Rising Play grants were awarded to support new girls’ rugby programs.
- The launch of ChildFund Rugby’s Grassroots to Global Forums, aimed at nurturing 1,000 new community leaders in rugby.
- 25 Unions
This report also lays out plans leading up to the tournament, emphasizing World Rugby’s commitment to increasing participation and inspiring future players and fans.
Sally Horrox, Chief of Women’s Rugby at World Rugby, stated, “Through the Impact Beyond 2025 Plan, we are driving real change, fostering community leaders, and promoting grassroots participation. This report is crucial for transparency and accountability as we pursue our long-term goals.” She added, “The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 will be a pivotal moment for the sport, showcasing athletes who will inspire many to join the rugby community.”
This report is the first of three planned updates, with more scheduled throughout the year and after the tournament. These updates will track progress and measure the impact of the initiatives.
