Wozniak Shines as All-American in Shot Put: Celebrating Slippery Rock University’s Athletic Excellence!

PUEBLO, Colo. – Slippery Rock University shot putter Seaton Wozniak earned All-America honors, bringing recognition to The Rock men’s track and field team on the last day of the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Wozniak was the only male athlete from SRU competing that day, following three teammates who participated in earlier events. He finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 17.39 meters (about 57 feet), just shy of breaking into the finals. He missed ninth place by a mere three-quarters of an inch after the final throws in the preliminaries.

This achievement marks Wozniak’s first All-America title and makes him the first SRU men’s shot putter to reach the top ten at nationals since Clint Bonetti placed fifth in 1992.

The Rock men’s team wrapped up the three-day championship with three All-American finishes. Drew Layton claimed seventh in the pole vault, securing first-team All-America honors. Kanye Thompson, finishing 10th in the 100-meter dash, joined Wozniak with second-team honors. Freshman Logan Anderson also had a strong showing, placing 13th in the decathlon.

On the women’s side, Anna Igims and Isabella Bartoletti achieved All-America finishes in the steeplechase and the javelin, respectively. In total, Slippery Rock had five athletes recognized as All-Americans during the event.

This championship marks the end of the athletic season at Slippery Rock for the 2024-25 academic year. Student-athletes will return to campus in early August, with fall sports set to officially kick off on September 4 for the 2025-26 season.

Wozniak’s success is a reminder of the dedication required in athletics. As noted by sports psychologist Dr. Jessica Williams, “It takes years of training, mental toughness, and resilience to excel at this level.” This triumph not only enhances individual recognition but also inspires future athletes at the university.
