This victory marks Wrexham’s third promotion in three seasons, a remarkable achievement for the club. The last time they played at this level was the 1981-82 season. In a spirited celebration shared on social media, Reynolds and McElhenney jumped onto the pitch, dousing each other in Gatorade, while fans erupted with cheers, waving flags and lighting flares.
“It felt like an impossible dream,” Reynolds remarked afterward. “Five years ago, we set our sights on reaching the Premier League. Now, that dream feels achievable.”
Reynolds and McElhenney purchased Wrexham AFC in 2020 for $2.5 million, aiming to revive the club and give hope to the working-class community in North Wales. The journey has not only captured the spirit of the town but also highlighted the passion for soccer in the area.
According to a survey by YouGov, 64% of fans in the UK find the revival of lower-league teams appealing, reflecting a growing interest in local clubs. This trend suggests that Wrexham’s story resonates with many, as fans increasingly support clubs with rich histories.
The fourth season of Welcome to Wrexham is set to premiere on May 15, giving fans a deeper glimpse into the club’s journey and the challenges they face going forward.
