Jul 5, 2024; London, UK; Emma Raducanu expresses emotion during her match against Maria Sakkari on day five of The Championships at the All England Club.
The WTA announced that a male fan, who displayed disturbing behavior towards Emma Raducanu, has been removed from the Dubai Championships.
This incident happened during Raducanu’s match against Karolina Muchova, where she lost 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the second round.
After falling behind early in the first set, Raducanu went to speak with the chair umpire, visibly upset. Following talks with the tournament director and security, both players took a moment before continuing.
The WTA stated that this fan was seen acting fixated and was in the audience during Raducanu’s match. After being identified, he was promptly ejected from the venue.
This individual is now banned from attending any WTA events until a threat assessment is completed.
At just 22 years old, Raducanu has a history with harassment; a man was convicted of stalking her in 2022. Injuries have affected her career since her historic win at the 2021 U.S. Open, which remains her only singles title. Currently, she holds the No. 61 spot in the world rankings.
