Yemen’s leader, Rashad Al-Alimi, recently met with Indian Ambassador Suhel Khan in Riyadh. In their talks, Al-Alimi praised the strong friendship and cooperation between Yemen and India.

Al-Alimi, who heads Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, expressed gratitude for India’s support during Yemen’s tough times. “India has provided humanitarian aid—wheat, medical supplies, and even COVID-19 vaccines,” he noted. Trade between the two nations has been robust, hitting about $1 billion last year. Al-Alimi pointed out that this economic partnership continues despite difficult circumstances.

India plays a crucial role in enhancing maritime security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, which is vital for regional stability. Al-Alimi urged for smoother processes in importing Indian wheat to Yemen.

Khan, in response, reaffirmed India’s commitment to Yemen’s unity and stability. He mentioned ongoing efforts to strengthen consular services in Aden and other support programs for the Yemeni government and its people.
