YG Entertainment Shuts Down Actor Management: What This Means for the Industry and Fans

YG Entertainment, a major player in the Korean entertainment scene, has announced a significant shift. The agency is stepping away from managing actors and will instead concentrate on its music business. This change comes as part of a larger strategy to refine operations and focus on its core strengths.

In its announcement, YG shared that actors would depart the agency gradually, as their contracts come to an end. The agency currently represents several well-known actors, including Kim Hee-ae and Cha Seung-won. Yoo Seung-ho is among the first confirmed to leave when his contract expires in March.

Reports reveal that YG started this transition in early 2024, meeting with actors individually to discuss the decision and outline future plans. This structured approach aims for a smooth exit for all involved, rather than a sudden mass departure.

YG expressed gratitude towards the actors and fans, stating, “We sincerely thank all the actors who have been with us and the fans who have shown unwavering support.” The company has pledged to assist its actors until their final days with the agency.

Founded by Yang Hyun-suk, YG has been reevaluating its non-entertainment operations as well. In recent years, it has scaled back ventures in cosmetics, dining, and even sports. In 2022, it closed its subsidiary, YG Foods, and in 2023, they sold YG Sports along with a significant stake in the drama production company, Studio Plex.

This strategic shift highlights YG’s commitment to focusing on music while ensuring that their actors transition out smoothly. The next chapter for YG Entertainment may bring exciting developments in the music industry.
