Young Farmers & Ranchers Give Back: Over 0,000 Donated to Support the Montana Food Bank Network

The Montana Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) Committee recently made a significant contribution to the Montana Food Bank Network (MFBN). On November 17, they presented a check for $8,000 at the MFBN’s new warehouse in Missoula. With this donation, their total contributions since 2011 exceed $104,000.

This year’s funds primarily came from the YF&R Hoofin’ it for Hunger race held on September 20 in Dillon. The event celebrated its 15th anniversary and featured both 5K and 10K races through the beautiful Wheat family ranch. Local sponsors, participants, and county Farm Bureaus played a crucial role in making this possible, and there were also virtual participants who contributed to the cause.

Nick Courville, the YF&R Committee Chair, expressed pride in their ongoing partnership with MFBN. He highlighted the importance of raising hunger awareness in Montana. Communities rallying together show how impactful local efforts can be, especially in tackling issues like food insecurity.

According to recent statistics, food insecurity has become a pressing issue, especially post-pandemic. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that around 10.5% of households were food insecure in 2021. Initiatives like the one by MFBF YF&R are vital in countering this problem, providing support to local food banks and communities in need.

Social media has amplified conversations around hunger relief, with hashtags like #HoofinItForHunger trending among local communities. Many young people have shared their stories of involvement, creating a network of support that extends beyond the races and events. This illustrates a growing trend where younger generations are more engaged in social causes, using their platforms to spread awareness and promote local initiatives.

As we move forward, it’s crucial to remember that every dollar raised goes a long way in helping those in need. The YF&R’s commitment not only highlights their dedication but also inspires others to contribute to the fight against food insecurity.
