Kerala has just welcomed the Thiruvananthapuram-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, a new train aimed at boosting travel between Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. This train will be managed by the Southern Railway zone and is designed to provide faster and more affordable travel for students, professionals, and traders. The train operates as train number 17042/17041. It will make its journey through key locations such as Kollam, Chengannur, Kottayam, and Ernakulam Town, stopping at 29 stations total. This includes popular stops like Varkala Shivagiri, Thrissur, and Salem, making it easier for passengers to reach their destinations.
Running weekly, the Amrit Bharat Express departs from Thiruvananthapuram North every Wednesday, reaching Charlapalli by the next day at 23:30. On its return trip, the train leaves Charlapalli on Tuesday at 07:15, arriving back in Thiruvananthapuram North at 14:45 on Wednesday.
The introduction of this train aligns with the Indian government’s efforts to enhance rail connectivity across states. According to a recent report by the Ministry of Railways, the Amrit Bharat scheme aims to create a network of trains that provide regular, reliable services in underserved regions.
