Weekend Preview – Feb. 14
This weekend is packed with exciting college sports as CAA Spring sports kick off. Baseball, softball, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse are set for action. Track and field, golf, and tennis are also in full swing.
Baseball
It’s opening day for college baseball! CAA teams will face tough competition with several games lined up against ranked teams. Elon takes on number one Texas A&M in a three-game series. Hofstra will challenge last year’s champion, fourth-ranked Tennessee, also in three games. UNCW hosts eighth-ranked Georgia, and Campbell goes head-to-head with number 22 UC Santa Barbara. Other notable games include Northeastern at Charlotte and Delaware at FAU.
Men’s Lacrosse
There are exciting matchups this weekend. On Friday, Monmouth faces Boston University, while Stony Brook visits number 11 North Carolina. Saturday features four games, highlighted by a noon clash between Drexel and UMBC. Towson caps off the weekend competing against number 20 Navy on Sunday.
Women’s Lacrosse
Eight games are set for this weekend. Delaware will challenge Rutgers on Saturday in Piscataway, hoping for their first win against the Scarlet Knights since 2017. On Sunday, Drexel will host number 12 Penn, aiming for a ranked victory for the fourth consecutive season.
Softball
CAA Softball gears up for 52 games this weekend! Hofstra faces a tough road with five ranked opponents at the Getterman Classic. They kick things off against number 23 Baylor on Friday. On Saturday, they’ll play against number 3 Oklahoma, then face Baylor again in the evening. They conclude with another match against the Sooners on Sunday morning. Drexel matches up with North Carolina, and Towson will take on Notre Dame twice. Stony Brook will play Illinois twice at the Roar City Invitational.
Women’s Golf
Elon and N.C. A&T will start the RiverTowne Invitational in Mount Pleasant, S.C. on Sunday. Kelly Zhao, the reigning CAA Golfer of the Week, hopes to build on her recent success.
Tennis
This weekend also features conference matches in men’s tennis. Campbell hosts Elon, while Drexel visits Penn State. In women’s tennis, Drexel travels to Stony Brook, and William & Mary welcomes UNCW. Towson will also face Big Ten’s Maryland on Friday.
