Ten years ago, 21 young Americans filed a groundbreaking lawsuit. They argued that the U.S. was violating their constitutional rights by allowing harmful carbon emissions to rise. While their case was dismissed, it ignited a wave of similar lawsuits, influencing climate action worldwide.

Now, those kids are back! As reported by Grist, 15 of the original plaintiffs are now taking their case to international courts. Their aim? To rally global pressure on the U.S. to address climate change more seriously.

Since the first major climate lawsuit nearly 40 years ago, over 3,000 cases have been filed globally. This shows a growing recognition of the climate crisis and the need for change. As climate expert Tess Riley points out, with anti-climate litigation also on the rise, the urgency to reduce fossil fuel dependence has never been clearer.
