Zak Starkey Opens Up About His Departure from The Who After a Major Health Crisis

After nearly three decades, Zak Starkey has officially parted ways with The Who. The drummer, known for being Ringo Starr’s son, announced his exit following a “serious medical emergency.”

Starkey expressed pride in his long tenure, stating in an interview with People, “Filling the shoes of my Godfather, ‘uncle Keith’ has been the biggest honor.” He also mentioned that The Who feels like family to him. Despite the tough decision, Starkey remains a big fan of the band.

Earlier this year, Haz struggled with health issues due to blood clots in his leg. Thankfully, he has fully recovered and asserts that it won’t hinder his drumming or running.

Recently, tensions were rumored between Starkey and lead singer Roger Daltrey after a performance where Daltrey reported difficulties hearing over the drums. Starkey responded, “I was surprised and saddened to hear about any issues with my performance that night. But what can you do?”

Looking ahead, Starkey plans to take some time off to focus on his family. He’s also excited about the upcoming release of ‘Domino Bones’, a collaboration with Noel Gallagher set for May, and finishing his autobiography.

Daltrey’s own recent comments add another layer to the band’s challenges. He revealed on stage last month that he is “going blind,” but he remains grateful to still have his voice, joking about the possibility of a “full Tommy” performance.

Starkey’s departure raises questions about the band’s future. The Who has seen lineup changes before, but they have continued to capture the hearts of fans for over 50 years.

As the music industry evolves, fans are concerned about how the band will adapt. Recent surveys indicate that many musicians over 50 are facing health issues that could impact their careers.

Overall, Starkey’s exit marks the end of an era, leaving fans both nostalgic and hopeful for what lies ahead for The Who.
