On February 6th, Zoi Sadowski-Synnott added to her impressive achievements by winning the women’s snowboard big air event at the FIS World Cup in Aspen, Colorado. This marks another victory for the New Zealand athlete, who has previously won three Olympic medals. In the men’s category, Canada’s Eli Bouchard took home the title with an exciting finish.
Sadowski-Synnott kicked off her competition strong with a score of 89.00 in her first run. She followed that up with an 83.25, placing her firmly in the lead before her last attempt. The only competitor who could challenge her was Japan’s Murase Kokomo. Unfortunately for Murase, her final run scored 170.25, just shy of Sadowski-Synnott’s total of 172.25.
In the men’s competition, Bouchard, just 17, had a fantastic start with scores of 89.75 and 93.00, giving him an eight-point lead heading into his last run. Japan’s Taiga Hasegawa came in second to last and really raised the stakes by scoring an impressive 95.00, pushing Bouchard to respond. The young Canadian did not disappoint—he earned a score of 96.00, the highest of the day, securing his first World Cup victory with a total of 189.00.
Hasegawa finished with a total of 184.50, while fellow Japanese snowboarder Miyamura Yuto completed the podium with a score of 171.25. American Red Gerard, who won gold in slopestyle at the 2018 Olympics, came in fifth.
This event in Aspen marked the conclusion of the FIS World Cup for snowboard big air in the 2024/25 season.
