Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a key player in waste management under the Jospong Group, is focused on expanding its presence in Africa. Recently, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the Executive Chairman of Jospong, visited Mombasa, Kenya. There, he met with the Governor of Mombasa County, Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir.
This meeting aimed to develop a strong partnership for better waste management in the region. The collaboration will help tackle sanitation issues while creating job opportunities for local communities.
Dr. Agyepong emphasized the goal of turning Africa’s sanitation challenges into opportunities for growth. He said, “Africa is ready, and Mombasa is a vital partner in this transformative agenda.” He believes that entering the Kenyan market isn’t just about business expansion; it’s about sharing knowledge and building local capabilities.
Governor Nassir expressed eagerness to work with Zoomlion, highlighting the company’s successful track record across Africa. He stressed the importance of practical, immediate solutions that also foster long-term environmental sustainability.
The partnership aims to promote economic growth and sustainable practices in Mombasa. Recent reports estimate that effective waste management can significantly reduce diseases, improve community health, and enhance local economies.
During his visit, Dr. Agyepong also met with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa. They discussed innovative waste management strategies tailored to the needs of Kenya.
Dr. Barasa expressed interest in Zoomlion’s approach, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to fostering partnerships that advance green growth. She highlighted the essential role of private sector innovation in overcoming Kenya’s environmental challenges.
A follow-up meeting is planned with Kenya’s National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). They will explore how Jospong’s model can support Kenya’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework and enhance environmental goals.
