Zootopia 2 Joins the Billion-Dollar Club: Third Major Hit of 2025 – What It Means for Disney and Movie Lovers!

Disney’s animated film, Zootopia 2, has soared to become the top-grossing Hollywood release of 2025. It recently surpassed the live-action Lilo & Stitch, taking in an impressive $1.13 billion globally. Most of this revenue comes from international audiences, particularly in China, while its domestic earnings stand at $259 million.

In comparison, Lilo & Stitch closed its run with $1.03 billion. Yet, Zootopia 2 still trails behind the year’s highest film, Ne Zha 2, which raked in a staggering $1.9 billion. Disney has now celebrated five billion-dollar films since 2013, joining the ranks of Frozen, Frozen 2, and Moana 2.

Critically, Zootopia 2 received a solid rating of 8/10 from IGN. The film invites viewers back into its vibrant world, tackling serious social issues through its beloved bunny-fox detective duo.

On the other side, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has earned $174 million after two weekends, but it seems unlikely to match the first film’s $292 million. Despite criticism, its low production cost of $36 million means it’s still deemed a success for Blumhouse. IGN gave it a disappointing 3/10, calling it a poor representation of sequels and video game adaptations.

Other films are also making waves at the box office. Wicked: For Good has grossed $468 million but looks to finish below 2024’s Wicked, which brought in $758 million. Now You See Me, Now You Don’t has earned $214 million, while The Running Man trails at $68 million. James L. Brooks’ film Ella McKay struggled, only reaching $2.1 million domestically in its first weekend.

As 2025 closes, anticipation grows for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Disney is ramping up its promotional efforts, reportedly releasing multiple trailers for Avengers: Doomsday to drive audience interest.

Fun Fact: The animated films from Disney have often performed exceptionally well at the box office, showing the studio’s strong connection with global audiences. With Zootopia 2 blazing ahead, it’s clear that animated films continue to capture hearts worldwide.
