The Singaporean passport is currently the strongest in the world, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 countries, according to the 2025 Henley Passport Index. India ranks 80th, allowing easy entry to 56 nations.
This index is created by Henley & Partners and evaluates 199 passports using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Following Singapore, South Korea and Japan are tied for second place with access to 190 countries. Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, Finland, and Denmark are third, with entry to 187 destinations without needing a visa in advance.
In terms of improvement, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made the biggest leap, moving up from 32nd place in 2015 to 8th in 2025, with access to 184 countries. Over the past decade, it added access to 72 new destinations. China also made progress, climbing from 94th to 59th place, now offering entry to 83 countries.
On the flip side, the United States saw a decline, dropping from second place to ninth, with access to 183 destinations. Venezuela faced the steepest decline, falling 42 spots to 44th place; it was previously in second position in 2015.
In comparison with its neighbors, India’s position is shared with Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Tajikistan. Myanmar is at 88th, allowing access to 45 countries. Sri Lanka holds 91st spot with Iran and Sudan, allowing entry to 42 nations. Bangladesh shares 93rd place with Libya and the Palestinian Territories. Nepal ranks 94th, while Pakistan is at 96th, alongside Yemen.
At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan is in 99th place, having lost access to two more countries, offering only 25 destinations. Iraq follows at 97th with 30 countries, and Syria holds 98th spot with access to 27.
