The 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards took place recently at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. This event often sets the stage for the Oscars, which are just a week away.
Sunday’s event was hosted by Kristen Bell, who stars in “Nobody Wants This” and was nominated herself. The awards were presented by Audi and streamed live on Netflix.
In the television categories, the show “Shōgun” shone brightly. With five nominations, it walked away with multiple honors, including awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, as well as the best ensemble performance in a drama series. Even the stunt performers from the show took home their own award!
“Only Murders In The Building” also had a successful night. It claimed the best comedy ensemble award, and Martin Short won an individual award, despite being absent due to a Covid diagnosis.
For film categories, no single production dominated the awards. Timothée Chalamet won the award for best leading male actor, and Demi Moore earned the award for best leading female actor. “Conclave” was recognized as the best film ensemble.
One of the standout moments of the night was Jane Fonda receiving the lifetime achievement award. Her heartfelt speech challenged her peers to lead with empathy, a sentiment that resonated with many in attendance.
