David Hogg’s Vice Chair Appointment Under Scrutiny: DNC Panel Calls for Vote Re-Evaluation

A Democratic National Committee (DNC) subcommittee recently recommended invalidating a February vice-chair election due to claims that it was unfair to female candidates. This recommendation isn’t final yet—it needs approval from the full DNC. If approved, it could lead to new elections for the vice-chair positions currently held by David Hogg and Malcolm Kenyatta.

The challenge comes from Kalyn Free, an Oklahoma Democratic Committeewoman who ran against Hogg and Kenyatta in February. She argues that combining the vote for two vice-chair slots gave the male candidates an edge. DNC rules require gender balance, and during the voting process, committee members faced pressure to elect at least one man.

The DNC believes the combined vote was necessary to speed up the election process. Both Hogg and Kenyatta’s teams disagree with Free’s claims about unfairness, arguing that the party followed appropriate procedures.

This situation sheds light on broader issues within the party. DNC Chair Ken Martin is advocating for reforms that would require party officers to stay neutral during primaries. Hogg has been vocal about supporting primary challenges against incumbent Democrats, which adds tension to the current scenario.
