Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever kicked off the 2025 WNBA season on a high note, winning their opener against the Chicago Sky 93-58. The game took place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, showcasing a strong performance from the Fever.
Clark, last season’s WNBA Rookie of the Year, had a rocky start but found her rhythm, finishing with a notable triple-double: 20 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds, plus four blocks and two steals. This performance made history as she became the first WNBA player to achieve at least 20 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds, and four blocks in a single game, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.
LeBron James, a fan of Clark’s talent, shared his excitement on social media, highlighting the talent the Fever have around her. Natasha Howard and Aliyah Boston also made significant contributions, each scoring in the double digits, while Kelsey Mitchell added 15 points. Howard’s versatility was particularly praised, as she played a critical role in the team’s success.
The Sky struggled with their shots, hitting just 29.1% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc. Although Angel Reese showed promise, scoring 12 points with 17 rebounds, the team failed to match Indiana’s efficiency, who shot 46.7% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range.
Historically, the Fever have been on a journey of improvement. They made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2016, finishing with a balanced record of 20-20. This renewed vigor has raised expectations for the current season, especially with the addition of experienced players like Howard and DeWanna Bonner.
If the Fever keep up this level of play, they could be serious contenders for the championship this season. Their next game is on Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream, while the Sky will try to bounce back on Thursday against the New York Liberty.
